Happy New Year's!

May 15, 2018

It’s time to celebrate the New Year!! Every year you have to decide how to celebrate, and it all comes down to your level of enthusiasm for it versus your ability to stay up past midnight. When you’re really young, you look forward to staying up past midnight…it’s a huge deal. But when you’re new parents, old parents, or simply middle aged or older, the party you’re fighting traffic and freezing temperatures for has to be something straight out of a Hallmark movie to get you out on purpose past 9pm. There better be fireworks, waterfalls, actual rainbows, a cruise ship full of food, unicorns, basically something mind blowing. Because let’s face it, we’re all exhausted! You try to stay up that late a week before just to see if you can do it, and it’s the most painful experience your joints and dry eyes have ever been through. Sometimes you can feel your body start to shut down if you’re up even an hour past your normal bed time. You didn’t realize you had an off switch until it gets activated, and as your body temperature starts to drop and your body starts to stiffen up, you swear now you know what being shot by a tranquilizer feels like. You start to wonder if people notice your blinking is delayed; in fact, you’re not even sure if you just nodded off for ten minutes or not. You reach a level of tired you know will take you all the next day to make up for it…possibly even a week.  Now you can’t decide if you need a hug, a coffee, CPR, or the entire next month to make up for your exhaustion. Good luck sleeping after eating fatty, elaborate, decadent food late at night too. Now you better sleep in an upright position for heartburn purposes, and to try to stop the meat sweats. If you really want to be a hit at the party, sprinkle some Mylanta on the hors d’oeuvres to help your guests survive the night. But you can’t help it though because you want to say goodbye to the old year and celebrate a new beginning….and the food is so good you don’t want to be rude and pass it up! You don’t want to start the new year with regrets that you didn’t eat the smorgasbord your besties made at the party. So good luck however you choose to celebrate….just line your pockets with Tylenol and Tums and you’ll be fine!! Hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year!!
